Lisbon has two new Shepard Fairey mills (one of them in partnership with Vhils)

On Friday, July 21st, the artist will inaugurate his first exhibition in Portugal. Until then, will create two murals in the Graça area.

The 47-year-old American artist Shepard Fairey, creator of Barack Obama’s famous portrait, “Obama Hope,” is in Lisbon for his first exhibition in Portugal. Until then it will give more life to the streets of Graça through two murals in which he’s working – one of them in partnership with the Portuguese Alexandre Farto, known as Vhils.

The renowned urban artist and graphic designer, who combines elements of graffiti and pop art, is making its mark at Rua Senhora da Glória in Lisbon. On the side wall of a building, you can already see the almost finished face of a woman. Half of the work is by Shepard Fariey and the other by Vhils.

The artist’s second mural, which lives and works in Los Angeles, sits on Rua Natália Correia and depicts a woman in a revolutionary beret and a machine gun in her hand with a flower in her barrel. It has already been featured on Instagram.

Shepard Fairey is in Portugal at the invitation of Underdogs gallery, where he will inaugurate “Printed Matters – Lisbon”, which is part of a continuous series of exhibitions of the artist. It takes place this Friday, July 21st.

Remember that Shepard Fairey became known with the Obey project, which began in 1989 with a sticker created by the artist while still studying and which eventually became a guerrilla campaign worldwide.
